Volunteering in the animal shelter in Tel Aviv

I've always been fond of animals. I grew up on a farm in rural Finland. I managed (so and so) without a pet for few years when traveling in Australia and New Zealand.
In 2009 I got my white furry ball who goes by the name Peppi. I named her after one of my favourite fairytale characters Peppi Pitkätossu (Pippi Longstocking). I used to love stories with strong female figures already as a child. And studies have shown it boosts the confidence of a child and is a good role model for your girls! Ok feminism aside. This is my first blog post and I will keep it light. :D

I lived in France back in 2011 and in Israel 2012-2015 and these pictures are from that time.
I've had in total 2 cats and 3 dogs as foster animals from the animal shelter. As for now, I have 2 dogs and 3 cats (of which 2 rescues). It's been sometimes hard and challenging having so many animas, but super gratifying at the same time. It makes you feel good knowing that you've made a difference.

Hope you enjoy my photos! :)

No pets allowed in the student flat in France. I was doing my exchange studies in Montpellier , France in 2011. I was missing my cat in Finland so much I almost ended up adopting this ginger one. This friendly stray cat (probably a former domestic cat) was hanging around in the area close to my flat so I took him in. He was not too keen on being an indoors cat however and so I let him go. If you love him, set him free -isn't that what they say. ;)

There are stray cats everywhere in Israel. They do however vaccinate and neuter them, cropped ear as a sign. This cat is the permanent resident of the faculty of Social Sciences in Tel Aviv University. I was studying political communication here.

I had this lovely Husky- mix as a foster puppy for couple of month in the summer of 2012. He was first of my many foster dogs/cats.

It was super hard giving this puppy for the new owner. I realised fostering rescue dogs is not my
thing- I would just keep them all. ;D

In the dog park in Tel Aviv.

The Boxer- Dalmatian mix Pongo was my third foster dog for 5 months. He used to be this chubby farm dog. He lost weight and turned into this super energetic dog. Amazing dog.

A local animal shelter brings rescue dogs to a busy street in Tel Aviv every Friday.
It goes without saying that it was difficult for me to just walk by and I ended up having 3 foster dogs
from these events. ;)

My student flat in Tel Aviv. The kitten in the front is a stray cat I rescued personally from the rubble in a building site. He was just the age when they turn wild for good, so I decided he
deserved a chance. There are so many semi- wild stray cats in Tel Aviv who can be quite unpredictable. This kitten was super sweet and got along with the rest of the pack really well. This was in November 2012.

A young Malinois- mix with a typical dominance related to this breed. I fostered and rehabilitated (trained) her for a month in November 2012. Note the tiles- pretty 70s right?

My home in 2011- 2012.

Pet owners requirements include multitasking in unexpected situations. ;)

My Finnish dog Luca (Belgian Malinois male) in Givatayim Israel 2015.

In my studio in Givatayim Israel. A rescue kitten in the picture too. I brought him to Finland with me. :)

Doberman puppy Bella in January 2015.
